I'm shoping for a good tube amp right now. I got the Hifiman Sundara headphones to pair with and i love U2, Simple Minds, Radiohead ect... I like a neutral sound. Lush, wall of sound, clarity and detail. not too much bass or painfull treble. I dont like distortion or hum. Im 48 years old.
I would like to keep it as cheap as possible. but willing to go up to around 300$ These are some of the amps ive looked at:
1. Bravo Audio V3 66$: I have this now and was dissapointed that i could hear some distortion on certain tracks. BUT it does have a bass/mid/treble control on it. Something i wish other amps had but never do. why?
2. Monoprice 25 Watt Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier with Bluetooth 139$: This is more of a stereo bookshelf/floor speakers amp. Are these types of amps any good for hifiman sundara headphones?
3. Schiitt Vali 149$
4. Massdrop X Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) 250$: This actually has a port for a balanced headphone cable. Said to punch well above its price range.
5. Bottlehead Crack 1.1 OTL 315$: Con on this is i'll have to put it together. haven't soldered anything in a long time lol
6. Xduoo TA-10 AK4490 290$ has its own DAC. has a balanced port AND plays DSD files!
7. Darkvoice 336SE 254$: Heard a lot about this amp in these groups
8. Massdrop Objective 2 95$
9. Little Dot MK3 & MK3 SE 262$: Or the mark 2?
10. Bellari - HA540 Mk2 199$: Looks a little old fashioned
12. Schiit Valhalla 349$: Many fans
13. Massdrop X Eddie Current ZDT JR. 399$: most expensive on this list BUT its coupled with a transformer! I would think this gives this tube amp almost no distortion!
